How we started
On a mountain in upstate New York on his birthday, Matt got down on bended knee and popped the question…
Our search for the perfect venue was on. We found breathtaking views, beautiful secluded spots and open meadows – but nothing to reflect us and the things we love. Then we found the tipis. Before we knew it, our wedding day was upon us and, finally, our friends and family had their first glimpse of our tipis. Since then, our stunning tipis have created the perfect place to celebrate, party, learn and be wowed.
Event in a Tent today
After several years of weddings, parties, festivals and corporate events all over the UK and Europe, we are sure we can help with your event, whatever the occasion, size or location. From our base in North Wales, we provide tipi hire throughout Wales and the local counties of Cheshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Lancashire, Merseyside and Herefordshire, as well as the whole of the UK, Ireland and into Europe.
When you hire a tipi from us, our friendly and professional team will be on-hand at all times. We take pride in ensuring we meet all of our customers face-to-face. We love to be involved in your plans and support you at every step so that you are able to hold the event of your dreams.
Meet the family
Niamh is the quiet one with the big ideas. She works at the back of house, planning and organising the future of the company. Niamh also keeps the office supplied with cakes and treats.
Matthew takes on two titles. As crew chief, he travels around the country to meet with customers for consultations whilst also leading the crew on build days. When in the office, Matt can be found preparing for future events, maintaining equipment and vehicles, or engrossed in a conversation with Agnes, the office dog.
Ian has varied roles as Office/Accounts Manager and IT specialist; these include communicating with customers, overseeing the day-to-day running of operations and coordinating communication between staff and customers, to name a few. In his spare time, Ian loves playing football and being Uncle Ian to Matt and Niamh’s children.
Extended family
Hannah is the newest member of the office team as of Jan 2022. As our wedding/events co-ordinator and administrator, Hannah is passionate about creating amazing events with people! She’s also behind our social media side of things.
As our crew leader, Bryn head up teams when jobs go out and make sure every build is precise as the last.
Bryn has been with us almost five years!
2010
Our company is born with the purchase of 3 Stratus tipis
2011
Matt and Niamh get hitched using their tipis. The first year brings 40 events; they planned for 4.
2012
Increased popularity means we now run 2 crews for the 60 events and stock up to 10 tipis.
2013
Rauri Jack Stephenson is born. We branch into glamping bell tents in another busy year, covering more than 80 events.
2014
Due to expansion, we move to a bigger premises. Proudly becoming members of Muta, Niamh and Matt’s days get longer and nights get later.
2015
We have 3 crews for another brilliant busy season. Our unique weighting system means we can erect tents on hard standing without the need to drill the ground.
2016
Our lucky leap year baby, Milo, is born. We break the 100 events benchmark and add chic stretch tents to the fleet.
2017
We launch our stunning domes at a festival. We end the year with over 120 events.
2018
Continued development of our domes and now, we also offer dome stages
2019
A busy season with the domes, dome stages and tents all booked out to weddings, festivals and events.
We also now offer a stretch stage.
2022
Launch of our Quadrosphere Tent and structure provider for major festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading, Radio 1 Big Weekend and Download!
Our Tipis
Our tents are based on the traditional tipis of the Sami people of Lapland. Combining both modern and traditional techniques and materials, the tipis can withstand anything the good old British weather can throw at them, while keeping guests dry and warm inside. The unique design of our tipis allows you to take full advantage of your surroundings by giving you the freedom to design your own layout, floor-plan and positioning of windows and entrances, bespoke to your setting. For those enjoying a winter event, the tipis will create that perfect cosy winter atmosphere with crackling fires and twinkling fairy lights.
Keeping it green
Event in a Tent aim to keep everything as green as possible, from the construction of the tipis to the day-to-day running of the company. We are currently working towards becoming a carbon neutral company.

The guys that came to put the tipi’s up did a sterling job in some truly awful weather conditions, and didn’t complain once. They couldn’t do enough to make sure we were happy with the end product, and definitely went the extra mile helping out where they really weren’t obliged. The tipi’s looked absolutely fantastic – our wedding day wouldn’t have been the same without them, or the help of the Event in a Tent team! Can’t recommend them enough!
The whole experience exceeded our expectations, the tipis were amazing and the service provided by the team setting up was excellent.
Our wedding was held in the tipi and it was magical
From first to last we received a wonderful helpful service that would be hard to better! When we panicked you gave us good advice, when we changed our minds you tolerated our indecision, when you came to erect the tipis you all could not have been more fun to have around (whilst we picked sheeps poo) and when it came to the day your tipis simply blew everybody away. Our American guests were completely astonished. Whilst we all were so happy to have such magnificent structures that looked stunning from the outside and were simply great to dance and have fun in from the inside. At sunset the view of the Long Mynd lit up by a golden glow was simply sensational.
Actually even now we meet local people who passed by that evening and they all say that it must have been a wonderful party as it looked so magical lit up from the inside.
So Ian, we can honestly say that you made a great day perfect. Thank you.
Our guests, most of whom were expecting a standard, and what we now consider boring, marque were totally in awe of the tipis and have not stopped talking about them since
