REAL Festivals: The Urdd Eisteddfod 2024

The Urdd Eisteddfod is an extraordinary festival that showcases the vibrant talent and culture of Wales’ youth.

Hosted in a different location each year, this year’s festival returned to Maldwyn near Meifod for the first time since 1988. Over 15,000 children and young people under the age of 25 competed in various categories, including singing, dancing and performing, making it one of the most anticipated events on the Welsh cultural calendar.

40,000 Competitors

An interesting fact: the first Urdd Eisteddfod took place in 1929 in Corwen, not far from our headquarters. This rich history adds a layer of tradition and pride to the event.

Approximately 40,000 competitors across Wales compete for their spot at Urdd Eisteddfod.

Participants first compete in local rounds, known as ‘Eisteddfod Gylch,’ followed by regional rounds, “Eisteddfod Rhanbarth” and those who succeed in these rounds earn their place at the “Urdd National Eisteddfod” or “Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yr Urdd”’ held during the festival week.

Event in a Tent: Creating Memorable Spaces

For almost a decade, Event in a Tent has been honoured to provide tents for this remarkable event. This year, we contributed several key structures to enhance the festival experience:

• 21x30m Stretch Tent: serving as a central hub, our large tent housed school groups and talks, providing a spacious and welcoming environment for attendees.
• 12m Dome Stage: this impressive structure was part of the Urdd and their separate ‘Triban Festival,’ hosting panel talks and music performances from artists and schools.
• LGBTQ+ Tent: we introduced a vibrant red stretch tent with a mirror ball and multi-coloured bean bags. This inclusive space, which debuted in 2023, was a huge success and gained national recognition for its welcoming atmosphere. We were asked to return it this year, continuing to provide a warm and inviting area for all attendees.

The whole event was expertly managed by SC Productions, a Cardiff-based company known for its professionalism and dedication to creating seamless events.

Going Forward

At Event in a Tent, we are proud to be a tent supplier to all Welsh Eisteddfods, including the Urdd in Meifod, the National Eisteddfod in Rhondda Cynon Taf this year and the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. We are also thrilled to announce our involvement with the renowned Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd for the first time!!!!
